So H&R Block usually comes in cheaper at every level. What you pay extra for with TurboTax is the interview. Its step-by-step questions are generally considered the more guided of the two, which helps in a year with new deductions to sort through.

Does TurboTax Work on Windows 10? System Requirements for 2026

Intuit has confirmed that TurboTax 2026 requires Windows 11 (64-bit) or macOS Sequoia 15 or later. That's a change for Mac users, because TurboTax 2025 still ran on macOS Sonoma 14. It won't install on Windows 10 at all, the same as last year.

H&R Block hasn't published its 2026 requirements yet. Its 2025 software was listed for Windows 10 or later and macOS 12 or later, so if you're on an older computer, H&R Block may be the one that still works for you. We'll update this page once H&R Block confirms.

On Windows 10?

You have two choices: upgrade the PC to Windows 11 (if the hardware supports it) and use TurboTax, or wait for H&R Block to confirm its 2026 requirements. Don't buy TurboTax 2026 for a Windows 10 machine. It won't install.

Choose TurboTax if you want the most hand-holding, you used TurboTax last year (it imports your prior-year return), and your computer runs Windows 11 or macOS Sequoia.
